Citation evidence, not guesswork
Evidence forevery citation.
VCite checks whether academic works exist, compares titles, authors, years, journals, and DOIs, and takes you directly to the original evidence.
Chrome extension · Works with selected text, pasted references, and citations on the current page
01 / Core capabilities
Verify the facts behind a citation,
not just its formatting.
VCite does not generate a reference that merely looks correct. It finds trusted records, reconstructs the metadata, and shows you the differences.
Confirm that a work exists
VCite uses a DOI for an exact lookup when available. Without one, it searches for candidates by title, author, year, and source.
Compare every field
Titles, authors, years, journals, and DOIs are checked separately, so you can see what matches, nearly matches, or conflicts.
Keep the evidence trail
Every conclusion links to the original Crossref, DataCite, or DOI page for further review.
Check a batch, not one citation at a time
Extract multiple references from selected text, a pasted passage, or the current page, then review and verify them together.
02 / How it works
From a passage of text to evidence you can review.
- 01
Extract
Identify titles, authors, years, journals, DOIs, and URLs across different citation formats.
- 02
Search
Query open scholarly infrastructure for candidate records and retain the source response.
- 03
Compare
Normalize case, punctuation, HTML, hyphens, and journal abbreviations before comparing each field.
- 04
Present
Classify each citation as verified, inconsistent, not found, or potentially fabricated, with links to the original records.
03 / Clear boundaries
Know exactly what the tool can prove—and what it cannot.
What VCite checks
- Whether a trusted data source can locate the publication record
- Whether the submitted metadata matches the source record
- Where the evidence comes from and how to open the original page
What VCite does not claim
- That a paper fully supports the argument made in a document
- To replace peer review, research judgment, or professional advice
- That a work cannot exist simply because a data source has no record
04 / Evidence sources

Privacy by restraint
We process only what verification requires.
The current version requires no account, builds no user profile, sets no website trackers, and does not store submitted citation text in an application database.
